Krytox grease

Looking to use Krytox on the o-rings for my usher fuel caps.

There are several different types; can anyone recommend the correct type?

Bob,

Slightly fuzzy memory warning here....but I think I purchased a small tube of Krytox GPL205 (-32 - 399 degrees F). I will verify that tomorrow morning at the hanger, and let you know for sure.

Seems like there would be a chemist around here that could come up with a less pricey solution that works as well.

soooo....if one 1/2 oz lasts a lifetime then how do you be so selective as to what gets the best grease? where is white lithium no longer good enough? i probably use 1/4 oz on the hinge pins alone in a year. i can see using camguard in my engine but i don't think most of my applications warrant the annual price of camguard for my regular grease applications

I had tried EZ Turn (fuel lube) and Super Lube grease on the fuel cap o-ring ... neither worked like Krytox.
Had a tube of Krytox that I'd "accidentally" brought home from work many years ago - didn't think to use it on the o-ring until somebody mentioned it here on VAF.
The fuel cap lever now closes fully without excessive force.
better living thru chemistry !

I use Krytox on the fuel caps and the tailwheel. Very little required for smooth operation that lasts. Although Krytox would be ok for the wheel bearings it would be an expensive use when regular bearing grease works fine..

Krytox is excellent product, but I find that I don't want the grease on my hands then jump into my plane with a touch screen glass panel. I don't use any grease. I occasionally lube them with gasoline and adjust them so that they tighten but not enough to cause trouble getting them off.

From Superlube below. I ordered I tub #71160 (14.1 oz for $34 on sale at Amazon) to try.

The basic ingredients in our part number 21030 are very similar to Krytox except for the base fluid oil

We have another product that we usually substitute for Krytox called Super Lube HTEP Grease ( See attached).

The Krytox has a PFPE base fluid oil which is different from Super Lube but except for Oxygen safe environments should work just as well.

I also went the Super Lube route first (worth a try) didn't work...and went with Krytox GPL 205 grease.

It works! The first and only application was two years ago. A dot of lube 1/8" diameter will do both "O" rings. A tube will last one user over 30 years...... you won't be disappointed.

I have been using MMO for years. a few drops from an eye dropper bottle whenever needed. always on hand from mogas use.

Is Krytox that superior to say Superlube grease?
Is there anyone who has tested both?

I’ll pay up for quality, but ouch for a lip balm size tube if it’s not significantly better.
Krytox is superior in many ways. Many car manufacturers use it in places like sun roofs where they call it "lubed for life" meaning it lasts the lifetime of the vehicle. It is very chemically stable / inert. Shelf life should be very long meaning you probably will never have to buy more. I just used some last week to lube the aileron belcrank bushing.
