wonder what is the secret to be at 130hp on this plane
The RV-12 usually comes with a 100 HP Rotax. The UL engine is cheaper, 40 lbs lighter and is air cooled whereas the Rotax is water cooled, needs a radiator, is a geared engine that turns over 5,000 RPM in cruise. The UL is direct drive, air cooled and of German design.wonder what is the secret to be at 130hp on this plane
Everything is brand new and we’re waiting on the inspector…$100,000 wheelpants included but not yet installed. BTW, we ran the engine and taxied it…smooth as silk. How much are you asking for it? how many hours on the airframe and engine?
Matt, it’s designed for the 100 HP Rotax. This is 30% more power, 40 lbs lighter and 20 MPH faster and a much quicker climb rate!wonder what is the secret to be at 130hp on this plane
and how to stay within the c.g. envelope with 40 less pounds up front (extended motor mount & cowl; i.e., Lockwood's RV-9?)I’m curious about the empty weight of an unpainted RV-12 with a UL350is engine installed?
At least, it is if you have the right prop to turn 3150 RPM with any efficiency. This is 30% more power,
This claim goes around. I have only seen one true W&B on a -12 and it didn't really work out this way.40 lbs lighter
Interesting to have that data on an aircraft that hasn't been tested to verify performance with cooling, etc.20 MPH faster and a much quicker climb rate!
I should get DM’s…Thanks
I have the data from a -12 with th UL engine and wheelpants, flyin in N.C.At least, it is if you have the right prop to turn 3150 RPM with any efficiency.

I'm familiar with one excellent example and I think it's a great combo. Expectations should be realistic though.
Pierre I sent a DM, do you have messages disabled? Gary
The motor mount provided by UL moves the engine forward several inches and also the cowl to accommodate the location…and how to stay within the c.g. envelope with 40 less pounds up front (extended motor mount & cowl; i.e., Lockwood's RV-9?)

That definitely is lower than a stock built RV-12iS, which unpainted is around 775-780 lbs or so (depending on which avionics kit is installed),Empty weight is 755 lbs.

I suppose, fair enough there is a range. I was 763.That definitely is lower than a stock built RV-12iS, which unpainted is around 775-780 lbs or so (depending on which avionics kit is installed),
Garmin or Dynon avionics?I suppose, fair enough there is a range. I was 763.
32 pounds shy of 40, and still missing the B part.
Dual G3X with AP panel. Stab tips. Not IFR. Not primed. Minimum interior. No wheel fairings. Leveled as appropriate using real airplane scales.Garmin or Dynon avionics?
I was thinking in terms of Garmin since that is all that’s available now, which is heavier than Dynon.
Pierre smith,Empty weight is 755 lbs.
