Extra paper route encroaching on the window when I build the Friday VAF News, so I’m pushing out the weekend edition a little early this round.
Wishing you and yours, a happy, safe and RV filled weekend.

I’ve had several over the years, including a couple of actual strikes - small birds - but the latest was today, in cruise at ~11,000’ msl, late afternoon, near the Utah-Idaho border, basically over the middle of god-awful nowhere. Suddenly a Redtail whizzed by the right wingtip, maybe 30 feet off… I could see that it was apparently making a see-and-avoid evasive turn. All in a blink - maybe a two or three second event. I was indicating ~170 mph at the time. That hawk was up there living its best life, for sure… I’m interested to hear your own RV-bird interactions, particularly the near misses.

Question before I close out the fuselage side skins
The F-1202L gusset has two holes on its top flange, but the KAI didn't mention anything like matching drilling or riveting. So is the longeron just supposed to rest on top of it?

RV-7 brake master cylinder elbow fittings
The AN elbows that come with the brakes only thread into the brake cylinders about 1.5 turns. I can't tell if the end of the fitting are NPT threads, which would be one explanation. But if they are, 1.5 turns hardly seems secure. I don't want to strip anything. The red plastic shipping inserts...

Joining the forward edge of RV-10 Sam James Cowl
I'm helping with a RV-10 project which has a Sam James Cowl. On my RV-7 the top and bottom cowls are connected on the forward edge by three screw/nutplates on each side. I'm thinking the RV-10 Sam James cowl needs something similar. Maybe two straps on each side, riveted to the bottom cowl...

Grounding a Z-14 dual battery configuration in an RV-10
I was planning on a dual earthx z-14 style power scheme with a forest of tabs for grounding at the firewall. For those with a similar approach did you run two 4 awg grounds to the forest of tabs or did you tie the grounds together at the batteries a run one 4awg ground wire to the forest of...

Parasitic drain on battery
Engine is an O-235 with B&C 40 amp alternator, B&C LR3 regulator, EarthX 680 battery. My battery drains down significantly if left unflown for two weeks or more. I've done the battery post to battery terminal test with no detectable voltage. I've checked every single fuse with a multimeter...
