RE DIY painting respirator
…bakercdb
This is my DIY fresh air system. I've only used it a few times but it is working superbly.
Parts are-
- Intex inflatable mattress pump
-sections of 6 ft CPAP hose
- 7/8 OD aluminum tubing by 1-in long to connect the above
- Amazon face mask
-Connector pictured below
-2 O rings for the connector above
- two large nylon washers which I enlarged for the connector above
- optional speed control as I've been running a little bit less than full speed.
Less than $100 for all the parts delivered to my door. As mentioned above, it doesn't seem like rocket science to me either. Just deliver clean fresh air to an enclosed mask. I think I'll get decent life from the pump ($30), especially running at a slightly reduced speed. I've got plenty of other places to spend $1000.

RE How to build the rack for the back of the panel?
…dmattmul
Maybe this help, autopilot head is rack mounted at the bottom. Pictures center and right is from the 14 and cut by Stein. Note the slight dimension change at the bottom where the autopilot went and held in the panel by the side clamps.

RE Cowl Hinge location again. ….9/9A
…Desert Rat
Like PhatRV said, it's for the MLG strut fairings. With the plane on its feet they have to be pretty flexible to get them fed into the hinge from the bottom up because the ground is in the way. If you went with a bigger hinge there I doubt if the pins would have the needed amount of give.
Also, for what it's worth, quite a few folks have had issues with the hinges along the bottom of the cowl cracking over time. On the RV7 Van's overhauled this design a while back to replace the hinges with a flange and screw/nutplate arrangement. Presumably the RV9 is the same.
Here's a screenshot of part of drawing 45 rev 3 from the RV7 to show what I'm talking about.
