A short reminder that if you’re thinking about registering for the site, you do need to fill out all of the fields correctly. Lots of spambots/spammers get close, and the way I can differentiate is in the fine, correct details. I know it’s a hassle, but it beats letting in a spammer.
Hope you had a great weekend.

RE: GEA24 GAD29 GDL51 placement’
…rockbottom PIREP
I built a stand-alone rack that stacks the GEA24, GAD29, and GDL39R together and sits directly behind two G5s on the right side of the instrument panel. The GDU is in the center and directly behind and slightly below it is a VPX Pro with a GTR20 stacked on top of it. A GMC307 autopilot control panel is mounted on top of the GDU.To the left of the GDU is a GMA245 stacked on top of a GTN 650. There’s also a GSU45 AHRS, an avionics ground bus, and a backup battery crammed in there.
With everything wired up, coupled with antenna coax, pitot-static lines, and service loops, I can barely get my hand in there. My thinking at the time was to minimize the length of the CAN bus and wiring runs to remotely mounted boxes figuring I wouldn’t have get in there very often. However, even with an avionics access panel in the forward cargo bin it’s a pain to work on.

Winter: Canadian Methods
…riser
Reporting back with findings following blocking the air passages from the front spar and the right side scat tube hole.
The canopy was previously only weather stripped from the middle to the rear. Now it's sealed all its lenght.
My passenger friend in the back reported feeling practically no drafts or close to nothing.
Previously, lots of cold air rushed from below the floor, especially around the rear stick and I felt a good breeze near the throttle quadrant that forced wearing a light glove on the left hand.
Data point, sunny day, 02°C at 3000'.
The sun obviously warmed the cabin, and the heater was completly closed during the entire 1 hour flight.
We were very comfortable the whole time.

Rudder Stop Extension
…Matt
Somewhere between initial fitment and final installation I ended up with rudder stops that were slightly too short, allowing a bit too much rudder travel. I didn't want to go through the pain of drilling out and re-riveting new stops, so - with official blessing from Van's - I added "rudder stop extensions" just like the ones on the factory RV-9A (photo below). The screws are upside down to avoid interference with the rudder cables.

This works so well that I wish it was the default configuration: The tabs riveted to the fuselage ought to be one standard size, allowing you to much more easily fine-tune the geometry of the 1/8" thick extensions which perform the actual rudder-stopping. If I ever build another one of these machines I will probably just do this from the very start.
