Unlatched Canopy PIREP …seagull RV-12
Just to add some more info for anyone scared of an unlatched canopy on a -12. Today I was ferrying a -12 for the new owner. It had a 180 panel that is set up differently from my “touch” panel. The audio warnings and warning lights are setup differently, enough of the excuses. We took off and were in the crosswind when the owner felt a breeze and looked up to see the latch had not been engaged. He called it to my attention and I grabbed the handle. The canopy never tried to open past a crack, maybe 1/2”. I lifted it a bit and it easily went up but not aggressive. I handed off the handle to him and continued to fly the plane while he was able to secure the latch. It was a non-incident.

RE Senders Grounding Pic …Cth6
Here is a pic of how I ensured my senders were properly grounded to the firewall side of the ground bus. That is a zip tie holding the connector to the sender body. I have since upgraded to an EI CGR-30P, but this got rid of random fluctuations for me.

RE 10K POT source
…benglish
I really like the Vishay / Sfernice P16 pots. They are very lightweight and are working well for the since 35 hours since install. There were several options available for these switches, but those were either not in stock or much more expensive, so I went with the most basic version. I was worried that they might be too low profile, making it hard to get a grip on the rotating bit, but that hasn’t been an issue. The only potential downside is that they are installed from the front and wired from the back, making them slightly more work to remove/re-install. These are the exact ones I used:

High Oil Pressure
Title is to attract attention but I suspect it is only an indication issue. Engine @ 1000RPM = ~105 PSI indication. Engine not running = ~ 42 PSI indication. The oil pressure transducer (Stewart Warner 411K) was R&R'd with identical results. The wiring has been inspected with no anomalies...

13 row oil cooler inlet/exit
Wide range of choices. The measurement device can be as simple as a length of vinyl tubing and a yardstick. Add water, a few drops of food coloring, and one drop of Dawn detergent. Handheld electronic. Quite a few of these floating around in VAF land Available from Amazon, along with a...

RV-12 Fuel Cap wouldn’t close
Two days ago I went to Pottstown Pennsylvania to pick up my new two me RV – 12. It’s now happily sitting in my hanger in Central Maine at the Central Maine airport. It was a great flight for a first flight in the RV. I flew for one hour and stopped in Danbury Connecticut for fuel. Then I flew...

Step wobble
Looking for an innovative fix to address step wobble. I can rock the step @1/4-3/8” at the step with my hand (I am 200 lbs). I have the TWC plug, which I drilled in place to 1/4” to get the 1/4 hole thru the bottom of the tubes. I replaced AN3 with AN4, after the step started to rock. I...

Stud on engine in way of baffle attachment
Our engine has an unused stud on the left side, front of the engine that will prevent the baffle bracket from attaching. Per the plans it attaches via a screw to the empty hole. I guess there are two options, remove the stud (which will probably require a lot of heat to break the red loctite and...
