RE: D-Sub Pins
…wjb
There are two commonly used d-sub pins (with matching sockets)
High-density: M39029/58-360 (orange-blue-black) for 22-28AWG
Standard: M39029/64-369 (orange-blue-white) for 20-24AWG
The they are both about 9/16" long. I used the regular density ones for the Ray Allen connections, with my crimper set "deep". You can't fit a 20AWG wire in a HD pin, but 22 and smaller works fine.
And, yes, they are small!

RE: Leak Repairs …fixnflyguy
I've done a BUNCH of leak repairs to 4,6,8 and 10 fuel tanks. Some full re-seal, some just the trouble spots. i try do do the repairs without removing any fasteners through paint, so I typically cut/install the "traditional" access holes/covers. The I/B rib can be accessed through the existing large fuel line pick up plate if installed, or the end bay baffle plate, existing or made for the repair. I have attached some miscellaneous pictures to see the process I typically use. New sealant over old (properly cured) sealant is fine, as long as it's clean and lightly abraded with Scotchbrite.

Paul Hove
Paul Hove, Twin Cities RV Builder, died on Saturday January 11 of cancer. He built an RV-7A. It wouldn't surprise me to find it was one of the first 7A's to fly. My tribute and story.

Firewall Penetrations: Need help identifying
The firewall is a place where there can be a bit of customization and I'm at that stage. Unfortunately, even after reading through the Firewall-Forward instructions there are a lot of standard passthrough holes and nutplates that I can't figure out what the original intent is for them. I'd like...

RV-8 - Battery cable and servo wiring routing under left aileron push-pull tube.
Anyone have any problems with the battery cable and lights/flaps wiring rubbing on left aileron push-pull tube? It looks like it'll be close to me. But, I ain't gonna know for sure till I put the wings on and bolt up the push-pull tube.

Oil sump heater usage
I’m sure this has been discussed in the past but I’m going to ask the question again. I’ve got the Reiff Hotstrip Oil Sump heater on my engine. Is there any reason why this can’t be left plugged in during the winter months? Here in Oklahoma the weather in January, February and early March...

Are there different sizes of D-sub pins?
Trying to reconnect the tiny (26 ga ? - why?!!) wires for my Ray Allen pitch trim servo. (RV-9A - purchased flying) Saw on previous threads and a Steinair video, the recommended use of d-sub connectors covered with shrink tube. Ordered some d-sub connector pins that stated they were D-sub...

Tank repair - inboard rib - cut proseal (how?)
I'm sure this has been discussed but my search came up empty. Issue: RV-6A tank, leak at inboard rib nose. I've been into it twice trying to effect repairs, but it hasn't been successful. I'm thinking it is time to just extract the inboard rib completely, fully clean up, and install a new...
