Sometimes, ya just gotta get out a BIG sheet of paper.

Had this roll of paper laying around from masking the wing while painting, one day I used it to draw out a system I was having trouble understanding and now it's funny how I did without it.

Chasing an alternator gremlin, so I started at the battery, drawing out the run of every wire from the battery to it's end point from battery to cb to switch to load, and it's gradually expanded (this is the third drawing.). Yeah, I know I'm not using proper symbology, but it's helped me realize things like Line may be on the bottom for switches, but for CBs it's on top. And now I can graphically see how there are two separate circuits for the alternator, one for the field switch and one for the power coming out of the alternator itself. Neat.

I’ll add to your paper. I find cardboard useful to keep the tables clean and also keep track of parts. Cut to the size of the table and keep a sharpie nearby.
