Panel Goodies - Mounting Space

I'm doing the standard head scratch as I think through where everything should live behind the panel. I have a 9A tipup, and my hope is to be able to make as much as possible accessible between the panel and subpanel so it can easily be accessed without doing the upside down limbo. I really don't have any desire to cut access holes in front of the subpanel. My panel includes two AFS screens, and I think I'm going to copy Dynon's offering and make a tray that attaches to the rear side of each screen. This should reclaim quite a bit of real estate to mount devices that won't otherwise fit on the aft side of the subpanel (I already have an ACM, ADSB, Transponder, and Radio on the subpanel).

My question - is there anything that I SHOULDN'T consider mounting behind the screens on this tray? I'll keep a path clear for the fans to move air. It seems that the most common items that get stuck on the firewall side of the subpanel are things like the engine monitoring box and alternator voltage regulator type things. Is there any reason not to bring those a bit further aft and put them on a tray like this to make them more easily accessed in the future?

Is there anything that just needs to forward of the subpanel and really shouldn't be located behind the panel?

I don’t think those will fit the back of the AFS screens. Only the HDX. I could be wrong on that though. When I built my dual AFS panel in my 9 w slider I had to cut a hole in my subpanel as the IFD540 was too deep.

Correct, they won't fit. I'm just taking the idea and making my own to fit the AFS screens. I will be cutting a hole in the subpanel for my gps too.

I installed two hinged panels. The span from the sub panel to the instrument panel about 10" wide. The are hinged both fore and aft. Easy to drop down or remove. Starboard side is the AFS ACM. Port is EMS, Back up batteries, B&C Regulator and Stall buzzer. The Xponder, ADSB and Com are mounted to the sub panel.
When they are up and secured, the instrument panel is very strong.
This is an early photo
