Oil Temp Thermocouple Location

Currently my RV6A with the O-320 engine has the oil sensor screwed into the oil filter housing. I’m putting in a new panel with a new thermocouple. Is this a good place or is there someplace on the pan I should use?

Have never seen an ems that uses a thermocouple for oil temp. In fact, don’t think i have ever seen a thermocouple that was for liquid use. Always a resistive sensor (i.e. thermistor) os some sort. Are you sure a thermocouple is called for?

Manufacturer said that was for oil temp.

JPI sells a type K thermocouple probe for Lycoming oil temperature, not an uncommon thing to see. As long as the equipment you're connecting it to supports it, it should work fine. The oil filter adapter is the usual place to install it.

Thanks Matt.
