What an interesting Oshkosh! After getting turned away at Fisk 3 times on Sunday (due to a$$hole pilots cutting in front of, or jamming up behind me, due to the 2-mile in-trail ATC requests) and getting a hotel in New Lisbon (82C), I finally got in to OSH Monday morning.
My Granddaughter, Anna, had to be at OSH Sunday at 1:00 PM for the GirlVenture program, so I sent her up from Dodge county in a Uber. I never made it in, so she spent the night in a friend's camper. BTW, if you have a young daughter or granddaughter I highly recommend you look into the GV program, Anna has attended for the last 4 years and had a great time each year.
I was having my plane judged in HBC and had about 12 judge's initials on my card when, on Thursday morning, 6 judges showed up and informed me that since I was an E-LSA, not an E-AB they were not allowed to judge my plane! The E-LSA's are judged in the Light Plane category down in the ULTRALIGHT area.
Long story short, a lot of people went out of their way and allowed me to taxi down to the UL area just before the Thursday airshow so I could be judged by the UL/LP judges. Everyone was super accommodating and all 4 UL/LP judges looked at my plane during the airshow. Before the airshow was over they brought us an invitation to their Award Banquet dinner to be held on Friday night. I taxied back to my spot in HBC after the airshow.
We were very apprehensive seeing only 3 Lindy's and 1 plaque sitting on the award table. But, we stole the show and were awarded the Grand Champion Lindy! When they announced our award they said many in years in the past they don't award a Gold because none of the contenders were worthy, but this year they had a definite winner.
We walked all the way back from UL to HBC with Anna proudly carrying Mr. Lindy!
I hope everyone had a great OSH, the WX couldn't have been any better, once we got there.
PS, if you want your E-LSA judged they expect you to land at the UL field and be tied-down there to be judged by the UL/LP judges. The UL/LP judges said they were not permitted to go up to the HBC/HBP area to judge E-LSA planes. I thank everyone who helped me get judged, they were all great about it, but I think this "Rule" needs to be changed. My world and people are in the Homebuilt area and I am out of place down in the UL area. Also note, the Homebuilt judges said if my RV-12 was certified as an E-AB they would have judged me in HBC with the "big boys".
PPS, according to FlightAware, I logged a total of 732 miles and 7.1 hrs. getting into OSH this year. The trip home was 266nm and 2.1 hrs. with a nice 15-20 kt TW! On Sunday after my 3rd rejection from Fisk they were starting the procedure 50NM(!) west of Endeavor!
