Looking for Enigma in Texas

cholladay

Well Known Member
I am looking for someone in the Texas area that has a Enigma installed that I can look at. I was not able to make it to Osh. I am trying to make a decision on my EFIS for my 8.
Thanks

Who is making all of these instruments?

While looking up information about Aveo Enginering and their digital flight deck instrument, I came across a web site called the Aveoshop at www.aveoaeroplanes.com/shop/index.html? they sell maxi singles that are identical to the MGL singles except for the name imprinted on the front of the instrument. I did not know there were two companies selling these same instruments under two different names and at different prices. The fuel flow sensor at Aveo is $20.00 cheaper than the one on MGL's web site and it is the same product. This may be something someone posted in the past that I missed, but I found it interesting.

I think...

Aveo was buying and repackaging MGL avionics instruments. They were working closely together for awhile, and now less so...

MGL Avionics manufactures all their equipment in South Africa- where it is exported out of the country.

Sport Flying Shop was the only US distributor until recently. Everything came through them and was priced by them for retail. I've read that Spruce and maybe others will be carrying MGL Avionics soon. There is still some deal where all product goes through Matt at Sport Flying Shop (in some fashion or another) and then on to the other distributors. He also is the US repair location so the equipment doesn't need to be shipped back to South Africa for repair.

The Yahoo forum is pretty active, you can find the info:

My friend, Vern, just received his Dynon D100. It will be interesting to be able to compare installations and features side by side. Another builder has a GRT horizons in his RV8- I might be able to be able to compare all 3 at one time.

My Enigma should arrive in about a week for installation on my RV7.

Your version of the truth is about right in my opinion ( :) ) ... except that "now less so" should read "now not at all". For more information / if you feel you would like to read it somewhere else:

You are correct, we where at one stage involved with Aveo. We decided to part ways some time ago. It was not in our interest to continue.

We developed the wireless intercom but decided at the time not to put this into production (we made 100 sets for an extended field trail of which some went to Aveo). The current Aveo system does not seem to be based on our technology although the unit looks surprisingly similar to ours.

We have a strict non-military dictum for our products and this was in conflict with Aveo which has BAe Systems backing.

There you have it.
