JPI EDM 930 auto dimming

American Hot Rod

I'm New Here
Hello everyone,

I have an EDM 930 engine monitor that upon initialization defaults to 25%. It?s nearly pitch black and impossible to see outside. It?s supposed to default to 100%. I have sent the unit to JPI for a software upgrade( only option) and to fix the auto dimming. It worked for a bit. I looked at the installation manual and wiring pin diagram. I was hoping that I could reset the default without pulling the unit or to install a external dimmer thru the pins themselves. I did see that others had the opposite problem of going full bright at night but solved that with some tape over the sensor, lol. I?m hoping I don?t have to send the unit back to them, plus they are closed until further notice due to Covid-19.

Thank you for any input!
Carl

Hi Carl,

Did you ever solve the auto dimming issue with your EDM-930? Mine has started doing the same thing intermittently. When a local avionics guy looked at it, he could not duplicate the issue. Then it started behaving properly for several weeks. Recently it reverted back to 25% on initialization again. It has only been a problem on start up. Once I set the brightness to where I want it, typically 95%, then it stays for the duration of my flight.
I also had an issue with the EDM-930 where the AUX fuel display (for tip tanks) was not registering fuel quantity on initialization. It displayed zero gallons. The fuel quantity corrected at some point during my flight. That happened on a couple flights and has since resolved itself. Both are strange EMD-930 intermittent issues.
