IO-540K1A5 rebuild

I will be rebuilding a Lycoming IO-540K1A5 engine for my RV-10 project. I am seeking advice and opinions regarding various components.

What would you do for ignition, starter, fuel control, oil cooler, prop governor, exhaust, and alternator?

I haven’t researched what components come in the finish kit yet, but welcome any feedback.

I'll let those more knowledgable than me make recommendations but if you get a copy of PC-615 and go section by section you can compare the K1A5 to the D4A5. At a glance you're looking at angle valve cylinders, large journal crank, different case, different intake/sump, different fuel pump, bendix mags, different accessory drive, and a 24v charging system.

The only thing engine-related the finish kit comes with is the engine mount and cowl and it looks like the K1A5 has the same ears as the D4A5. From what I understand the angle valve cylinders are heavier than the parallel valve ones so you'll probably want to move as much mass aft as possible and they have a different profile than the parallel valve cylinders and will require finessing the baffles.

Jeffrey -- how did your K1A5 engine rebuild for the -10 go? Do you have the case and crank?

How much different is the case and crank from the c4B5 and the D4A5 variants that are recommended for the RV-10?

Thanks,
Brad
