Fuel servo overhaul

Legacy Bendix fuel servo on an IO-360..
anyone have experience overhauling one of these antique gems? I purchased the o/h repair kit which was almost a grand. Has diaphragms, gaskets, etc..
Looking through the maintenance logs it's been 25yrs since it came back yellow tagged, which is a testament to how bulletproof they are. Anyone ever tear one apart?

While I will do most all work, I won't do that. It was my understanding that these are flow tested on a bench at OH and internal adjustments are often required, in addition to typical parts replacement. I sent mine to Don at AFP. Quite reasonable in aviation terms.

If they are anything like carbs, you also need to deal with wear in the throttle shaft bores. Unsure if they use inserts or knurling with the servos.

That's the answer I was looking for thanks. I too rip everything apart with successful outcome most of the time. I hate grounding my old bucket of bolts, and shipping back and forth adds time.

I sent an RSA-5 and flow divider to Don last Christmas. They were back in a little over 2 weeks including the shipping time. His yellow tag service ran about $1800 if I recall.

+1 to Larry’s comment & just a “datapoint” & testament to the durability of the Bendix RS series of servos. I had my RSA-5 servo OH by AFP a couple of years ago, and while being processed, the bench tech told me it hadn’t been “opened up” (his words) since 1985! Pretty good service, don’tcha think …

YMMV - but don’t wait as long as I did, not smart …
