Finally a Monkworkz Installation Video: de Havilland DH88 Comet

Greetings!

For several years I've neglected making an installation video but finally I've got something together:

Back in January I went to Old Warden, England where the Shuttleworth Collection is located to install two generators on the de Havilland DH88 Comet. Not the jet powered, and ill fated Comet but the 1934 racer that won MacRobertson Air Race from London to Australia:

This plane brought together a stack of ideas that were genuinely ahead of their time: stressed-skin wooden monocoque construction, retractable landing gear, variable-pitch propellers, and split flaps, all wrapped around two Gipsy Six R engines in a streamlined twin-engine airframe designed to outrun anything else in the sky.

This was in the works for 2 years. England's LAA certification process is long and arduous but has allowed for installation on many aircraft that would be non-starters in the US.

The landing gear is electrically actuated, so it's safe to say that this plane is electrically dependent. It now has 2x 28 V Monkworkz generators that replaced 88 lbs of equipment from the 1980s.

It was a real pleasure to work with the folks at Shuttleworth especially on something so historic. They treated me like a king and I got a personal tour at Shuttleworth, Duxford and Aircraft Restoration company. All amazing experiences.

And yes, I am saying that if a Monkworkz generator is good enough for these guys, its probably good enough for you as well.

thanks for the report Bill. Yep that racer is a fantastic looking machine which I had the pleasure to see in "flesh" a couple of times during my 7 year stay on the island. The Monkworkz must be a great addition to an admirable British design.

Powering my RV I have a Monkworkz only, and that has been running super reliably now for 300 hours and counting. I gained weight not only by installing this generator (this is the 30A version) iso the alternator which was installed before, but also by shaving the pulley off the flywheel, and not having to use a belt anymore. I have to point out that my ship is IFR capable in view of the equipment installed, but in a light version requiring only 7A once the batteries (2X Earth, one main, on minute one as ignition alternate (LSIII). This no heated pitot, no lights on.

So very happy, Bill has been a pleasure to work with, highly responsive to any query I had, the products looks very intelligently designed, and I would give it full thumbs up.

Bill,

It is Better than good enough. Great electrical engineer. I recently purchased one and just finished installing it.

Thanks again!!!
Ken
