Dynon USB Not Working

Hi, I have an RV-8A with two Dynon Skyview HDX800s that were installed in 2020 to replace SV-700s (this was before I bought the aircraft). The HDX800s have sequential serial numbers, 11308 and 11309. The harnesses that go to both of these displays have USB cables integrated into them, going to pins 16-19 of the D37 connector.

Here's my problem - on one of the HDX800s, the USB cables works - I can transfer data to/from the unit with no issues. On the other HDX800, it doesn't work. The issue is not the cable/harness, I've swapped them with the same result - the same HDX800 retains the fault.
  • I've checked continuity for all of the pins on both of the harnesses, and they are all good - pins 16-19 lead to the appropriate pwr, ground, and +/- data pins on the USB port at the end of the cables.
  • I've checked that both of the harnesses transmit power (5V) to the USB via the appropriate pins at both ends of the harness - D37 and USB port
  • I've confirmed data signal at the USB port end of the cable
  • I am using a known-good USB thumb drive - it works fine when I plug it directly into the USB port of the Skyview
  • I have swapped out the Skyviews, and I know it is an issue with just one of them; it's not the cable, it's an issue with the HDX800. One of them recognizes the USB thumb drive when it's attached to the USB port at the end of the cable, the other one doesn't
  • Both HDX800s are running the exact same, current firmware.
I know that Dynon has since changed the harnesses and no longer includes the USB cable as part of the harness. But since I have them installed, and since one of them works, I'd really rather not have to install a new cable, if there's a way to get the existing cable to work with my HDX800. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot? Is there a setting that I'm missing in the HDX800 that lets it know to look at those pins for USB data? I'm at my wits end, and I'm tired of having to contort to put a USB drive into the back of my HDX800 because the cable isn't working.

Officially the HDXs don’t support the harness USBs. I forget the exact documentation. You have to use the usb ports on the back of the screen

Yeah, I'm tracking that they changed it, and don't support it anymore, it just doesn't make sense that one works and one doesn't, given the same hardware and software.

How many usb ports are on the unit?
I am sort of having similar issues with afs equipment. My stuff has two usbs, one for charting data, the other for a WiFi adapter. I’m reading the units can only read and power one at a time. Unplugging the WiFi solved my problem.

I read of a single report of a failed usb power supply in Dynon sometime in 2018.

Asking google was the greatest help.
