Band C Silver Flite Alternators

I'm looking at options for an alternator on a new build.
Now there have been a few BandC Silver Flite alternators in the field have any of the users had any problems.

Thanks
Rob

Go for it. On the surface, it's every bit as reliable as any other alternator -- same material contents (e.g. bearings, magnet wire, brushes, etc.) as any other ND IR Clone.

There will not be any statistically significant data -- anecdotal or objective - until they get a whole bunch more fielded ( > 100's for > 100's of hours).

It will then come down to how they stand behind and support their product; Do they have a no-questions asked, "sorry about your issue - here's a new unit" policy? Or do they make you jump through flaming hoops and fetch multiple shiny rocks before they acknowledge that you even own one of "theirs" -- oh, it's out of warranty - can't fix it, policy?

I spoke to them a few months ago as I am also considering it and I was told that it is of the same quality as their LX60 which has been the most reliable of all other alternators. I have had three BandC alternator in three different aircraft and have never had any issues.

I'm in the same situation on my RV-10. Just hung the engine and now I'm trying to decide between, what seems to be the gold standard "B&C LX60", or the "SilverFlite SF601".

while we have learned from PP that taking a highly reliable alternator and modifying them can lead to major reliability issues, that does not mean that it cannot be done correctly. B&C's other alternators are also modifications to Otherwise stock Denso alternators and their history has proven they are capable of doing it correctly. Their post sale service has also been excellent, so we should probably give them the benefit of the doubt. To me, it seems they have earned it. Only time will tell though.

I have had excellent service from B and C. I inquired about the difference between LR3C and LR3D voltage regulators. Nathan from B&C told me the 3D was tweaked a little to reduce the chance of nuisance trips. He also said the 3D was set up for LED use. I asked him how much it would cost to upgrade my 3Cs to 3Ds. He told me to just send them in and it would be on the house. I am a long term customer and had bought a new LX-60 from him just moments before. Sure enough, a short while later my LR3Cs now LR3Ds appeared in the mail for no charge. Now that is great customer service!

I can't speak to the reliability yet as I've only got 20 hours on a new silverflite 401.
However, their presale customer service was nothing less than exceptional.
I also had a post installation question about operation which was answered promptly and comprehensively. Needless to say, I am impressed thus far.
