Hello, I am the unfortunate owner of an extremely electrically problematic flight design F2 airplane. The reason I’m posting here is that the vans RV 12 IS is probably the closest light sport aircraft around in terms of the architecture of the electrical system. And being that unlike the flight design F2 model most of these RV 12 IS is are being built by fairly knowledgeable light sport home builders who might be able to offer some suggestions.
My aircraft began having electrical charging issues and battery fall alerts within an hour of purchase from the dealer. By the time I got it home, I had a series of four or five different aircraft mechanics. Attempt to figure out the cause of the inability for the aircraft to charge in flight. Finally, I took it to a Garmin certified electrical specialist called the avionic shop. After sitting in their shop for about a month, they finally found the cause of the charging failure, which was an OVP relay that the technician had a bad connection probably from the factory. He found some other issues to which he tried to fix the best he could. But you can’t really tell what connections are bad by visually inspecting them. And so unfortunately, this electrical problem that was originally affecting my charging system is now apparently creating a safety issue with my fuel pump circuit.
The problem I’m running into as many of the expert aircraft mechanics, don’t really know the 912 is system and it’s related wiring very well. And even with the very few Rotax guys out there that are good with the 912 IS, they don’t have the wiring expertise as a traditional, Haile experience ANP usually. And so I’ve missed almost an entire summer despite purchasing a nearly brand new plane worth nearly a quarter million dollars.. as I’ve said display has already been in the shops of some of the best aircraft technicians on the West Coast. Somebody suggested Pacific avionics might be able to help. Does anybody know anybody else who knows the 912 IS but is also an electrical wiring specialist or expert? My experience dealing with this has caused me terrific suffering, and frustration. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. If ever there was a light port owner in need of assistance this is that person.
