Looking for feed back on MTV-9-B propeller. I current have a Whirlwind 74 HRT on my IO-375 powered RV-8. Coming up on 650 hrs tach on the prop and engine combo, it runs good, smooth and fast. Options are to send it to Tiffin Aire in Ohio for tear down and overhaul, upgrade to a new WW 330 series, a new Hartzell or a new MT. Anybody running a MTV-9-B/183-50a propeller on their RV? I have a good experience with McFarline Aviation and am leaning that way. Good Customer Service.

Not exactly the same but I run an MTV-9-B/198-52 on my -10. No issues at all. I used Flight Resource in Bloomer Wisconsin for acquisition of the prop.

I was going to get the WW prop and have flown a couple hundred hours with them on another aircraft. During the time when I was getting ready to get a propeller and was talking to whirlwind, they grandfathered most of their models and came out with a new stuff. Then they told me they did not want the propeller I desired to be put on my airplane my friend and I ended up talking to McFarlane about the MT prop…. Call it whatever you will, but I am so glad that I’ve gotten the MT prop as opposed to the WW. I have flown with it over 100 hours on my airplane and it is performing beautifully.

I am the worlds leading expert on my own opinion and in my opinion, I would hands down take the MT model that you listed above! And yes, McFarlane’s customer service was excellent!

I have the same prop on my Titan IO-370 on my RV7A. Very happy with it, smooth and pulls strong. Dealt well Larry Schlasinger at McFarlane. Great company.

The MTV-9 series is the heavy duty hub version best used with non-counter-weighted crankshaft engines. You can use the MTV-12 series if your engine is counter-weighted. The CAFE reports on the RV-9A that I have use the MTV-12 prop...the performance numbers they got under those very tight controlled tests are fantastic. The best part of the MT, in addition to the low mass is the way they absorb the engine pulse vibrations of these wonderful, yet pounding Lycoming engines. All MT props are fully EASA and FAA certified as well. Price for 2026 prop/spinner is $18,550 for the MTV-12 and $20,700 for the MTV-9 prop/spinner. Crate and shipping are on top of that. After just over 150 hours, I can report that I’m 100% happy with my MT.
Strong in pull, effective braking when needed and very smooth at all RPM.

A (potential) word of caution. In the past the US service centers were limited in the types procedures they could perform. This may or may not still be true. If so, a major issue could require you to ship the prop to Germany. Not cheap. We'll see what happens to WW prices now that Hartzell bought them. The costs may become a wash between the two.

The issue your refer to should never happen...every MT Prop Shop is approved to do O/H on blades and hubs. However many smaller ones have only one tech trained to do composite work, so if that tech laves, it can take a year or two before another is found and can get into the MT tech training cycle.

If you have standard O/H with no major blade damage, any MT shop can do that. If you have significant blade damage (think prop strike), then the blade must go to Germany to be rebuilt...still much less $$$ than buying a new replacement blade.

What we do is get detailed pics and prop log info and send it to 2-4 MT prop shops asking for a quote to O/H blades/Hub along with turn time. Cost to ship a prop is very cheap and prop shops in the Midwest are always lower cost than east or west coast ones.

On my 3rd MT and I read a lot of the difficulties of others…but Hartzell and MT standout from my perspective.

MT is a great product.
