Titan X-340

Does anyone have any first hand experience replacing a Lycoming O-320-D3G with a Titan X-340?

Fixed pitch carbureted.

Can you simply bolt the accessories ( exhaust, carb, mags, etc ) on and fit the same cowl? Was told that baffling is a little different as the cylinders are tapered.

Just trying to get a feel for a real world replacement.

I replaced an O-320 (no suffix as it was the original from the 1950's) with an x-340 on my old Lancair. There were a few changes that I had to make.

1: the oil sump and accessory cases were different. I ended up using the oil sump and accessory case from 320 on the 340. The oil pickup location on the 340 accessory case didn't match my old sump and the 340 sump didn't match my carb setup.
2: all baffles transferred over without much more than a slight modification at the front if I recall.
3: the prop flange bushings were different; I ended up getting a new custom set from Saber Manufacturing.
4: mags were direct transfer
5: exhaust was direct transfer
6: cowl was the same

Thank you !

Just what I’m looking for.

I was going through old pics looking for something else and found these pics. The dirty accessory case is from my 320. The shiny one is from the 340. Note the location of the oil pickup on the bottom of the accessory cases is different. The 340 has an open hole on the bottom out of sight in the pic. The 320 bottom hole is filled in solid aluminum.IMG_20200808_081809.jpgIMG_20200808_081818.jpg
