RV 7 FLAP EXTENSION QUESTION

i was just curious if the maximum flax extension speed of 87 knots was for full flaps or if you could safely put 10 degrees in and fly a higher speed? doing instrument approaches it's hard to get slowed down that much sometimes. if you could put 10 degrees flaps in at a higher speed what would that speed be? thanks for any feedback.

it was my understanding that you could add 10 mph for the first 10* on the 2 seat models. have no idea if that is from vans or just made up by internet posters.

For my 10, the vans specs are 10 mph higher for the first 20*. So seems logical something similar would apply to others. however, the 10/14, uses a slotted type flap, so maybe not.

No need to speculate when Van's tells us in section 15 of the manual:

FLAP SPEED: On the RV-4/6/6A/7/7A/8/8A, 110 Statute for 20º and 100 mph statute for full 40º flap deflection.

And be sure to convert that speed to knots, if that's what you're using. 110 mph is about 95 knots.
