After 3.5 years of building the RV-10 I took the first long cross country trip with the full family and baggage. Phoenix to Traverse City MI, Mackinac Island, Huntsville AL, Chicago and back to Phoenix. I know lots of criss crossing, but had events in the cities that fell on timelines. Anyways, 29.2 hours (89 total now on the RV-10) and no issues. Consumed 2 qts of oil while getting about 18 miles to the gallon at 160-170 KTAS while fully loaded. Aircraft ran smooth the entire way and kids had plenty of space in the back seat. Duffel bags pack nicely in baggage.
For those still building, keep it up. Would have been difficult and costly to do a trip like this in a 10 day timeline flying commercially. Not that the RV-10 is cheap, but a whole lot more fun than flying commercial.
