Setting the position of the flaps and ailerons

I'm getting ready to close my wings and am baffled by the flap installation. The direction only tell you how to install the pins to hold the flap on, but not how to attach it. The drawings show lots of comments about adjusting to fit, but not a lot about relative to what. For example the aileron hinges say use different washers to adjust position, but no reference against what. The flaps say to set it relative to the aileron, but no reference to proper gap etc. I'm at a loss. Maybe it's in the manual and I'm just missing it? Can someone tell me how you did it? Is it supposed to be done later?

So when I went back after reading this and a fresh set of eyes after sleeping, there is a little more to it. The gap shown on the 9A shows 1/4" from the wingtip and 1/4" between the flap and aileron. The issue? The 1/4" gap at the wingtip requires cutting down the wingtip to fit. Looking at the drawings again closer, you set the position of the aileron with washers on the outboard side. This becomes the datum for everything. Then the inboard side, you fabricate a spacer that fits the location of aileron to the inboard hinge. From there the flap can be set to the aileron and then when the wingtips get installed, they get trimmed to the 1/4" from the aileron.

Set first using the washer stack-up given.

Fabricate next to lock aileron in place. Set rod length and position per the direction and the alignment jig. (I had to cut mine down since I was using the bearing belcrank mounts.

Set aileron to flap gap next when you align and drill the piano hinge.


And finally set the outboard aileron to wingtip gap when installing the wingtips.
