Curious about this as well ... with kits out there now, there is nothing on the web store?Any word on when the KAI’s will get published?
And they pre-rolled the leading edges of the skins...what is the world coming to?Unpacking. Took about 45 minutes to inventory everything. 100% of parts accounted for.
HS front and aft spars, upper and lower HS skins.

That's where we're at right now. KAI sections 6-9 not posted yet. Same as section 20 if you're building the tanks.without any instructions
I saw that, too - no more duct tape, broomstick and swear words! And they pre-rolled the leading edges of the skins...what is the world coming to?![]()
It's humorous...the tail kit was shipped complete! Except it's not...always something missing, but they have a complete payment in hand for an incomplete kit...what a deal! That's where we're at right now. KAI sections 6-9 not posted yet. Same as section 20 if you're building the tanks.
Maybe you ought to have waited a year or so until the “bugs” are worked out and an inventory is built up…It's humorous...the tail kit was shipped complete! Except it's not...always something missing, but they have a complete payment in hand for an incomplete kit...what a deal!
One problem they have is cash flow, and the other problem (or perhaps one of the other problems) is space to store all these partial kits while they wait on back ordered parts. Ship a partial kit, call it "substantially complete", get access to the cash, and clear out the warehouse.Maybe you ought to have waited a year or so until the “bugs” are worked out and an inventory is built up…
My sentiments exactly. However, they already have the cash (in my case since February). One problem they have is cash flow, and the other problem (or perhaps one of the other problems) is space to store all these partial kits while they wait on back ordered parts. Ship a partial kit, call it "substantially complete", get access to the cash, and clear out the warehouse.
KAI section 7 (rudder) and 8 (HS) just posted so they're slowly getting it done. In all fairness though, they are one month ahead of schedule for the empennage. It's humorous...the tail kit was shipped complete! Complete KAIs 6-9 were posted early this afternoon. I sincerely doubt that ANYONE has been delayed in building because the KAIs didn't get posted until two days after the first kit left the factory. I think it is more than fair to say that the kits are COMPLETE.That's where we're at right now. KAI sections 6-9 not posted yet. Same as section 20 if you're building the tanks.
Never said they were not. I did say in a separate post #20 that in all fairness Vans was ahead of schedule on the empennage by about a month.I think it is more than fair to say that the kits are COMPLETE.
Not you, Karl. Others were making disparaging statement that no KAIs meant incomplete kits. I agree with you. Great to see them ahead of schedule!Never said they were not. I did say in a separate post #20 that in all fairness Vans was ahead of schedule on the empennage by about a month.

I have a neumatix squeezer and it is awesome as I don't have to change the depth for squeezing rivets. 80 PSI for 4- rivets, and 38 PSI for the 3- rivetsThe VS went together just as easily. I was a little confused reading the instructions ahead of time, but once you have the parts, it all lines up nicely. The long, thin rear spar caps (two of them) have a bend to them, but straighten out once installed.

The KAIs did not call out for any fluting on the ribs, but there is some curvature and warped metal, so it made sense to lightly flute the main rib and nose rib flanges.

It was almost silly how easily all this went together. Kudos to the engineers and manufacturing folks at Van's.
There are many different sizes of solid rivets used, and again, I found it easier to just buck the rivets rather than repeatedly adjust and test the squeezer. YMMV.
