F-402c

OK, hopefully not too stupid a question, but.....

Other than aggravating me severely and interrupting my panel layout plans, does F-402C serve any real purpose? Would I be in reasonable shape by lowering it 2", or just notch and patch?

The F402c is a compression member in the F402 bulkhead system. I would think notching or moving it from inline column with the longerons would compromise the strength of that bulkhead. I would change my instrument panel layout.
