Weather cams

The Windy weather app has a view that shows many public webcams on a map, in addition to cloud layers and winds aloft.

I am really excited about the FAA weathercams program (direct link is https://weathercams.faa.gov/). It's much more comprehensive, reliable, and aviation-specific than the scattershot webcams on the weather apps, and I think it could be a game-changer when it comes to preflight weather awareness and making that go / no-go decision.

I've kept an eye on it since it launched in Alaska years ago, and I've been in touch with the FAA team who is now developing it into the lower 48 in hopes of getting my airport's cameras integrated. Which is now underway along with a lot of others, but we need to spread the word, including encouraging your airport management / state aviation departments to integrate any existing cameras into the system (or install new ones for the prupose).

AOPA also had an article about it back in 2022 that you can read here
