Bringing a -4 back to life
…cjmccorkle update
Well, I made some progress on my fuel tanks. I heard back from weepnomore and they want 7k to strip and reseal my tanks
another guy said he’d reseal but wouldn’t mess with sloshed tanks. however, I made a discovery today that gives me hope that I can strip and reseal it myself. I used some Klean Strip from Lowe’s to soften up all the proseal that was covering the rivets and hit it with the pressure washer. It came off pretty easy. Without having to scrape anything. Drilled out the rivets and now have full access inside the tanks. After getting everything open, I looked inside and sure enough, the slosh was pealing all on the baffles and could have been disastrous if it made it to the fuel pickup. Also found out one of my tanks got damaged by the wing cradle so add that to the list. Anyway, here’s some photos. More to come. Cheers

Are you passing hot, crappy gas?
…petehowell update
A quick follow up on this addition to the plane after running mogas all summer at temps up to 100 degF. It just seems to work. No more problems with hot turns/dieseling/rough running. The downside is the fuel totalizer is off b/c my FF sensor is before the "T". I might fix that, but my tank gauges are accurate, and the high FF lets me know the bypass is open.
I'm still watchful, but this mod gives me some peace of mind, as does 91 Octane Mogas/boat gas at 3.34/gallon before MN tax and credit card rebates!
Winter mogas can sadly show up here in the next few weeks - and it is still in the high 80s here under the Twin Cities Bravo, so I'll keep you posted.

Well I do at times........ Winter to summer mogas changeover season has always been a challenge - the winter mogas on a warm day would lead to some issues, like fuel boiling in the fuel line, and carb, leading to an over rich condition on take off with a corresponding stumble after a hot...

Fuel Filler Neck to Skin Alignment Adapter
Another way to "align" the fuel filler neck with the hole in the tank skin ... Simply a "stepped" adapter - filler neck i.d. on one side; and, tank skin hole i.d. on the other. I just used PVC hollow tubing because I had some, but any kind of laminated wood that could be turned on a lathe...
