Chasing "heavy wing" (Was "N612EF: First flight report")
N612EF had its first flight this morning. Because KSGS doesn't allow experimentals in Phase I to return, DAR Tony Kirk gave me a corridor down the Mississippi to near Red Wing, at which point I could turn north into the test area and then, finally, head for Lake Elmo (21D) where it will be based...

3D printed tailwheel pant
I hate to cover up my nice new aero garage tailwheel fork, but I think this tailwheel pant might be worth 0.5kts. I used the NACA0030 foil because it seems to fit well over the height and width of the tailhweel/fork assembly. It should index over the OD of the AN5 axle nuts and into the ID of...

Cheap Towbar rebuild experiment
So after 20+ years and over 3000 times dragging da plane out da hangar, the towbar needed some TLC. The spring broke, the powder coat was mostly missing, and it looked sad. The county just opened a paint recycling store, so as a cheap guy, that called to me. I found these gems and a new...

Adding Dynon servos to F1 Rocket?
Anyone here added Dynon autopilot servos to a Rocket? My concern is that “older” RV4s need a different elevator bellcrank retrofitted to accommodate the servo (per Dynon). My Rocket has a RV-4 tail made before 2005, so I think this applies. Is there a better way to install the pitch servo?

Bleeding brakes the easy way
Bleeding brakes can be a challenging and messy job; however, I have been using a system for years that works so well it's almost hard to believe. I first saw this method being used by Jay Pratt, and I shamelessly made my own version. My older version had a bigger and ungainly tank, so I decided...

Get the cap all the cool kids are wearing! I don’t get a penny. It’s around $15. $5 more if you want your N-number on the back (I put 'STAFF' on the back of mine because it makes me laugh. Put STAFF on yours too if it makes you smile). And down the road $10 to the charity of your choice...
