I am thinking my prop set up is not ideal, input is welcome. 180hp RV8 with a catto 3-blade wood core 68"diameter, 74" pitch. WOT on climb I see around 2250RPM. The builder lived in the mountains so I assume this is a climb prop. if this is not an ideal pitch for the airplane, can Catto re-pitch it?

I spoke to the Catto guys and they said if I sent my prop in they could remove some material from the back edge for less bite and more RPM. But then they said I would have to run higher RPM to go the same speed. I get about the same RPM as you but I decided to live with what I have. Call them for more info.

That is definitely a climb prop. I have the same setup, but with a 75" pitch and she loves to spin. Design RPM is 2800...but I never let it get there. I also have a 78" pitch prop that needs repair. When I called CATO, they told me they can repitch them within +/-3". They also said my 78" was considered "all-around prop", back when they were making them 68" diameter. All that said, I hate the current climb prop. Sure, 2'000fpm is cool, but I just don't like spinning the engine like a bat out of hell.
