Powering up Vans guages without sensors

I have Vans gauges for all of my engine instrumentation. All instruments are installed in the panel and connected to power and ground by daisy chain connections. I have a few instruments that are connected to the sensors but not all.

I am about to go though the engine preservation process recommended by the engine manufacturer where I will be turning over the engine with the starter and without plugs. During this process I will be monitoring the OP and tach, checking to see if they come alive.

This is a boatload of background to ask, is it okay to power up instruments that are not connected to sensors?

Its not a big deal to power only the OP and tach but I am curious. Thanks.

I wanted to do the same thing and
got some resistors in the middle
of the range to put right on the gauges.
I don't remember the values, around 200 ohms
if I remember correctly. I was told the gauges
would peg with possible neddle damage if the inputs
were left open.
