Any tips on doing this inspection? I got the parts (and test rig) from Lockwood. I installed the crankshaft locking pin installed, and am now trying to remove the Plug Screw. I looked to me like a 9mm hex head socket fit, but when I tried to loosen it, the hex head slipped before the plug loosened. And I was putting a lot of torque on it. It's not a left hand thread or anything silly like that, so it? Any hints?

Thanks!

I was just telling my friend/helper today that was the omission in the Rotax manuals. They don’t specify tool sizes for the hardware and don’t explain the need for heat to soften Loctite to remove some of the parts. You have to look ahead at the installation instructions to recognize the parts adhered with 648 and 603, so need to deduce the need for heat to remove them.

It looks like this part calls for 243. Did you have to heat it to remove it? And the Rotax instructions call for blue 243 - I have red 243. Is that an issue?

I didn’t need to heat it. And sorry, but I’m not familiar with red 243. Not being a “gear head”, red means “permanent” to me and blue low/medium strength. I’m sure someone more knowledgeable can chime in on that.

All done. Not horrible, all things considered. Having done it once, with all the tools, it's a less than one hour job I think.

One weird item - mine used a T55 Torx head, not the T60. Glad a bought a set rather than just the one.

Definitely strange. My power-plant kit was received May of 2019. Guess they made a change. Here’s mine.
