No ventilation Smoke Helper Cap

RvAviator

I'm New Here
Just installed my Smoke Helper kit in my RV7, kit bought several years ago. When measuring oil flow, the tank was compressed a bit and when unscrewing the cap the tank expanded again. Seems as the cap isn't ventilated. Any ideas?

Most smoke systems require a separate vent line to the outside of the plane.
Ok, thanks. But nothing is mentioned about that in the manual. Only if the RV8 tank is used there is an option to install a vent line if one do negative g's. I will not do that.
But that tank should also work without a vent line. So maybe the cap should be air tight.
My system sure gives uninterupted smoke, but rather annoying with the banging metallic sound from the tank when the pump is on.

Some caps are "vented" and some are not.

If you do not have a separate line, you definitely want a VENTED cap.

And you probably should resist using your smoke system until you have a vented cap.

Thanks, I suspected that. Tried to get in contact with Smoke Helper, but apparently they are not in business any more.
But I guess there are quite a few customers that bought the same setup as me (the behind seat tank), never seen any complaint regarding ventilation. So maybe they just sent me the wrong cap. Will try to find a vented one.

I have the same cap, was having issues with the sound also. I got a smaller rubber gasket for the cap and that fixed the problem.

As mentioned, make sure things are vented. We put a separate bung for a vent/or external vent and use a sealed cap but SSH may be sealed tank needing a vented cap.

Thanks Jeff, I thought the cap was vented as instructions made it clear no separate vent was needed if not doing inverted g:s.
I followed Brians advice, made the gasket a bit smaller, no more nasty sounds and a lot of nice smoke:cool:
