Mitchell 2 tach - calibration?

Well I may have bought something useless on eBay (again). Hopefully someone can tell me more? I was looking for a 2" tach and found a Mitchell 2". I could see in the pic that the redline was around 2500 so clearly this was something appropriate for my Lycosaur. :)

I get it and on the label it says D1-112-5240 Calib. for Rotax (D1-112-5225)

Gee, don't Rotax's turn around 6000 rpm? What's this - it has a redline at 2550? All that I can find about the part number is "Special for Rotax 912". Calibrated to prop rpm? So, what's up, will this thing read 1000 rpm when my Lycoming is turning it at 2000? Anyone know more?
