Fly in to celebrate public access to Blackwater Airfield

The Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) has set the Anniversary Fly-in to Blackwater Airfield 8FD3 for April 10-12. Located in the heart of the Panhandle's Blackwater River State Forest, we 'fly in, camp out' while enjoying the hot/cold showers, hiking trails, swimming lake, fishing and more. It's low key and very enjoyable. Not a RAF member? You're just as welcome...but if this sounds to you like a good weekend, why not join and help support our efforts to open up more places like Blackwater to the general aviation public?

Jack, this camp out sounds good. The safety briefing mentions gopher holes and ant mounds. In your estimation, is the airstrip suitable for standard RV wheelpants (~1.5" high)?

Thanks, Andy

Andy, we've had a number of RV's (4's, 6's & 7's) at the previous two anniversary celebrations. It's probably the best publicly owned grass field in the Southeast. I visited there two weeks ago (Grumman Tiger with tight wheel pants) and was surprised at how smooth the marked area of the field was...and I've landed there five previous times. If you know the Dreamland Squadron, based at Haller, they've all flown into Blackwater, some more than once.

We will be doing some minor field maintenance on Friday, so any surface issues are likely to be tackled first. Two weeks ago there wasn't a single ant mound.

Let me know if you have any other Q's.

Jack
