Snorkel / Baffle Confusion

I'm in the middle of work on my baffles and snorkel install. Each of the plans seem to not realize the other exists. For the most part after spending a ton of time reviewing the plans and various websites I think I have figured out how most of it is supposed to go together. I did trim the front of the inlet ramp before I read the snorkel install instructions which say not to trim the inlet ramp, but I can live with that part I think. I got through the process to the point of making the filter retention pieces that Vans supplies. It seems many have made their own filter holder piece and I can see how that looks nicer. I'm on the fence if I'll redo a single piece filter holder or not. The current confusion for me is the conical gusset piece. It is not mentioned in the snorkel instructions only in the baffle install instructions. What have others done? Did you leave it out or include it? I'm looking at my options at the moment, but I'd be interested to hear what others have done. Pics would be helpful too.

This is what I did. I think its right enough. I too prematurely trimmed the front but "fixed it" with one piece holder. Only have a couple extra holes🤫1779187794304.jpg

Your outboard edge looks very similar to what I have with the Van retention piece. On mine, because I cut the front of my inlet ramp there isn't any support for the front filter edge. Not sure if that is a problem or not, but I like where you added your cover with the front flange covering the front of the filter. Also, screws on the outboard baffle seems like a good idea so you can remove the cover from the top. I ordered a piece of 0.040 2024 so I may give making a one piece cover a shot.
