Transition training in SF bay area?

Are there any transition trainers in the northern California area (or just even someone available that I can do a ride-along in an RV-4/6/7/8)?

I'm buying a RV-3 and would like to get some familiarity with the quirks of a RV before solo'ing it. I got my PPL in a Citabria and a majority of my hours are still in tailwheel. I'm quite comfortable with handling a tailwheel aircraft, but I'm sure there's some differences that I should know about and be prepared for before a solo flight.
 
Do you plan to insure your new to you RV-3? If so, the insurance company may have their own stipulations about transition training (obviously not in an -3). I can recommend calling Gallagher (they advertise here) and speak with one of their EAB people (Leah, etc).
I'm sure you'll get some replies about a (free) ride along.
If you need formal transition training from a CFI, it gets complicated, assuming you're paying the CFI for himself and the airplane. This is contrary to the "not for compensation or hire" rule for EAB aircraft. However, an FAA waiver ("LODA") is easily available to the owner. The real issue is insurance. Training others for hire is not usually included in typical insurance policies, and getting this coverage can be expensive. There a few well-known CFI's offering transition training in a -7, hopefully your insurance company will approve that. To the best of my knowledge, there are none in NorCal, so be prepared to travel.

Part of the spark of this thread was my talks with insurance. I would like to get hull coverage, but I may just go with liability initially and just reapply once I hit 20 hours. For example, one insurer wanted 1 hour of dual, but they would only accept it in a -4. I tried to ask them about if they would allow a -7/8, but I was told no.

I did reach out to the ones Vans listed on their site, but they're quite backed up (no availability until July). So just looking at all the options right now.
