Who do you fellow pilots use for your insurance?
I have a 6A and love it......just like I'm sure I would love any other Vans aircraft. I want to get my tail-wheel rating and am looking for a company that will allow me to do so in a certified tail-wheel aircraft that I am looking to purchase. Current insurance provider does not allow this. They want a number of hours in tail-wheel before a possibility......period. I have just under 1300 hrs. Recommendations?

Thanks in advance

I recently purchased a Cessna 120. NationAir was able to provide several reasonable quotes. I chose a policy which required 5 hours dual and 5 hours solo before carrying passengers. Depending on the aircraft you are considering purchasing, I don't think you will have any trouble with insurance. The 120/140 series airplanes are relatively inexpensive in today's market.

If you do a search here for "insurance" you'll find a wide array of threads showing people's luck on quotes. Total time, recent time, average time a month, amount of check rides a year, if you participate in Wings, if you've ever had a violation or accident or insurance claim, etc will make your rate different then possibly what "John Doe" may be quoted or say they are quoted.

A few possibly interesting threads for you:

Great company. Competitive rates. Should be a no brainer for your situation.
Disclosure: no affiliation. Just a satisfied customer. Jenny is the best.

NationAir are VAF sponsors/supporters .... Doesn't hurt :D

I don't know which certified plane you're looking at, but with 1300 hours you should have more options that what you've heard so far.

I second the recommendation to call Jenny @ NationAir. She took care of me very easily, and my situation was a little unusual.

I put a deposit down in mid/late April on an RV-6, I didn't have a single engine rating at the time.

I added the COM ASEL on 1 May, went to see Mike Seager 8 - 10 May, and flew the new to me airplane back to CA from AL a few days later.

Once I added the ASEL and knew I could go see Mike, I called Jenny. The quote I went with had no minimum time requirements for the RV or for tailwheel. I simply had to be signed off by an approved instructor, and of course Mike is on top of that list.

I did have a bit less than 8,000 hours TT, almost half of that in helicopters. The airplane time is almost all Multi-engine turboprop. I went with a $500 deductible, 45k hull, pretty standard 1M liability etc. The policy also has some nice little additional coverages. It was $1314 for the year.

Jenny has a firm grasp on the market, and if anybody can help you I would think she can.

Good luck!

Doug

I'll second that!

NationAir

I reached out to Jenny and one of her associates got back to me since Jenny was still out on a long Holiday. The quote was satisfactory. Can anyone attest to service after the sale?

NationAir

Been with NationAir for over 10-years. Been great working with them. Was flying a non-owned airplane for a while and added a non-owned policy very quick and easy. After 18-months, no problem dropping the non-owned policy and just keeping the RV policy. Have not found anyone better for the RV.

A few years ago we took out a team policy with Jenny Estes at NationAir. They insured all 12 airplanes for commercial, formation aerobatics and air shows. Not only did they give us a very competitive price for the policy they hosted the entire team to a very nice breakfast at the Sun'n Fun Air Show, the first show under the new group policy. Less than four hours after the breakfast the famous tornado hit the Lakeland flight line and the team lost two aircraft and sustained damage to most of the others. Of course Jenny was there in minutes and the claim processor was there within a few hours. All claims were settled to our complete satisfaction and we have stuck with Jenny and NationAir ever since. The policy premium has not increased.

(FYI, NationAir is not a Team AeroDynamix sponsor. We just like the way they do business.)
