Shout out to Anti Splatt.
Flying my buddy’s RV14A with the Beringer wheels that uses Sealed bearings , how smooth the plane rolls and of course no grease mess or maintenance I decided to look into the Anti Splatt sealed bearings conversion for my RV10.
I totally wasn’t sold YET on the conversion until I helped another fellow RV owner (6A) who wanted me to install this conversion on all three of his wheels. We flew the 6A after we installed the wheels with the new sealed bearings conversion and I was SOLD. Super smooth. So I had to do it.
The process on line ordering and sending the wheels complete with tires ( they offered balancing also so if you can make sure your tires are pretty new) was pretty simple. 3 day turnaround time was amazing ( of course I’m just a little south of their shop) I have the Grove wheels and brakes on my 10 and another 10 owner I convinced to do it at the same time has the Matcos with the larger double piston brakes.
My install took a little time because I had small wear groves from the old stock bearings on the axels that you could never tighten in the first place. I had to do a little sanding on the axel to smooth it out so the wheels went on smoothly. I also had to re-drill the nut for the cotter key where as the 6A original nuts lined up really close where you only needed a little reaming . My buddy’s 10 needed nothing but one little shim to line up the original drilled nut hole .
Taxi test and flight was as expected Smoooooth!
Best thing is no more grease mess and my 10 rolls so much nicer. That Balancing was great.
