Be sure to read Vic's excellent article in this month's edition (September 2020) of Sport Aviation.

Also, I just received my spiral-bound copy of his excellent "Pre-Buy" Guide that is available at:
Pre-Buy Guide for Amateur-Built Aircraft
It has 100 pages of color photos and tips that are useful to anyone buying an airplane, and especially an RV. It also helps RV owners prepare for their annual condition inspection by showing some common discrepancies to look for.

Vic has an electronic (iBook/iPad) version as well, but I like the printed booklet for ease of use. Be advised that Lulu.com is a 'print on demand' publisher and it may take several weeks for your copy to arrive. Highly recommended.

Well done, Vic...

Vic Syracuse is the Real Deal.

He came to our airport to do a prebuy on an airplane I had been maintaining so I got to see him in action. Not just with the mechanical stuff but afterwards when he did transition training with the new buyer, watched and listened as he communicated gracefully with the tower, spoke to all involved in the transaction afterwards...- there was nothing but high-praise for the man.

A buyer use him for my 8. Stated the cam will fail on the report and that in all caps quote I WOULD NOT FLY THIS AIRPLANE because it had dual light speed ignition with no battery back up.
No confidence in the report

No offense but I think you should reconsider your comments above. I don’t know anything about the cam in your -8 but flying any plane with all electronic ignition and no battery backup is not a good plan. If the alternator ever fails you will have limited electrical power running just on the main battery. Sure you can turn off the non essential stuff like all the avionics but unlike a car you can’t pull over to the side of the road when the engine quits and if your’e flying at night over rough terrain your options become very limited. Vic is probably the smartest guy in our RV world so it would be prudent to listen to him.

Seems like a valid concern to me, although I suspect that there's more to the story. Why was his opinion unreasonable?

Your plane has both ignitions with no battery backup? So if you shut your master switch, the engine quits? How is that acceptable? I would agree with Vic and not fly the plane either.

So, the thread, "I like Vic" has been revived after 4 years, got more responses than it's original run, and now is talking about something totally unrelated.

BTW -- my plane has dual lightspeeds and one battery. I'm so crazy (or cheap) my only alternator isn't even B&C. Oh the humanity.
