I am up for renewal and while checking around, I got a quote from BWI Aviation Insurance Agency. They beat my old company by enough to make it worth going with them. (I have never had a claim in 22 years) So what is everyone's experience with BWI? Good? Bad? Just looking to make a informed decision. Online reviews are very good with a slight concern with communication during a claim.

Thanks,
Mike

I switched to BWI las year, as they saved me a significant amount of money from by previous broker. I've made no claims, but the customer service has been top notch.

Have had great experience with BWI including their requirements for me to be insured in my rv4 when I bought it (without TW endorsement or any RV time). Requirement was 10 or 12hr dual, TW endorsement to fly solo and 25hr to fly passengers. This was mid 2021.

Wonderful working with them. When I started flying I went with Avemco. My grandfather had been with them since they opened their doors until he quite flying. They treated him well so on his advice I stayed with them when I bought my RV9A. Now as a new pilot (100 hours or so) with a hull insured for $140k I was paying around $4500/year. After 3 years it was approaching $5000 (even at 300+hours). I called BWI. Within 20 minutes they had a quote from Global, same coverage for $1300. Holy crap!

I’ve been with them for over 2 years now. After getting my IR it went down to around $1200. No price increase with my latest renewal. I’ve got around 600 hours total and 400 in my -9A. I fly about 100 hours a year.

I've had BWI for years and they've been pretty good to deal with. I have an ongoing claim through Global for my Kitfox from when a local CFI I was giving an intro to in the plane and she decided it was a good idea to slam the brakes while the tail was still up and flipped us over. Global has not been amazing to deal with so far, but on the BWI side they've been good minus some minor miscommunications. If it helps, I went through them again for my new biplane (though was a hassle due to my open claim, again, not a BWI problem).
