Engine Help

My engine is an O320-D1A spinning a FP prop. I've got an oil leak coming from under the Accessory Drive Adapter Pad Cover. Likely a failed gasket.

Question: When I replace the gasket, should I use a gasket sealer? Recommended type? Most of the on-line information for sealers tell me that they shouldn't be used with a gasket, just on bare metal, but the Lycoming manual lists a gasket. Recommended practice?
Thanks,

No sealer

I personally don't use sealer as I was instructed by my IA. Do take all the time necessary to make sure both mating surfaces are clean and all remnants of the the old gasket are removed. Also inspect for scratches in the surfaces. Should be an easy fix.

I like the anaerobic gasket makers and sometimes use permatex #2 (usually threaded surfaces). I leave very few gaskets dry.

Hope you have a gasket, my engine was leaking there and had no gasket. New M1B straight from Lycoming.

Sealer

Have had great success with Hylomar Aerograde or Permatex #2 non-hardening.
