Hola Arizonans ... any recommendations for RV-friendly fields and FBOs in the PHX area? I'm anticipating a trip out from the SF bay area in the spring, and will be staying more or less downtown Phoenix for a few days.

CHD would be my first choice. DVT if you want that part of town. Even PHX is a good choice, not expensive or difficult, even though a Bravo. I would avoid SDL and FFZ (landing fees imminent).

We stayed at GYR about 3 years ago and it was great. Got hangar space for $50/night and good access to rental cars.

And don't forget to go to Pizzeria Bianco. We went to the Heritage Park location which was excellent.

Glendale is always a good choice. Glendale aero service is friendly and will help with care rental etc.

Your best choice for logistics is Chandler (CHD). Right next to the freeway, has a restaurant and less traffic getting into Phoenix. Goodyear airport is okay except for the training activities and nightmare commute into downtown on I10. Stellar air park where I live would be perfect but we currently don't have transient parking capabilities.

If you're tempted to come up to KPRC, just be aware that it's among the 25 busiest airports in the US, thanks to ERAU.

It’s a short flight up to KPAN. Cheap fuel and a friendly restaurant. Get a home made pie to go!
And Chandler has an ACS warehouse next door. 😉

You'll also have to pay a ramp fee for parking at Cutter (no other transient parking I'm aware of) if you don't purchase fuel. $20 for the 1.25 hours I was parked there. Cutter is also on the opposite side of the airport from the restaurant so you'll need to borrow the crew car (if available) or walk the mile around.

I would just avoid PRC entirely, nothing to recommend it. Too much training traffic, grumpy controllers who will sometimes make busy situations worse (some also in training) and the town is really just a big retirement community - like those areas of Florida.
