I need to get serious about getting my RV painted, or at least pick out a shop and get on their schedule. I've done some searching on VAF, but most of the threads I found are very old.

Does anyone have a paint shop recommendation in the Northwest? Preferably Oregon, but anywhere within a few hours' flying from Portland would be fine.

About 7 years ago when my 14A needed painting, I flew it up to a place called SunQuest, a shop that did mostly commercial aircraft (like FedEx), at Paine Field (Everett) and asked about pricing for a simple, single color paint job. The owner looked the airplane over and quoted 10k. Even back then, that was a good price so I added a clear coat for 2K. Two weeks later I had a nice aviation grey 14. I removed and installed the fairings and control surfaces myself and they threw in a weighing on the way out. The paint used was PPG and 7 years later looks like the day it was painted even being parked outside. I thought about adding vinyl stripes but decided the lines look fine without them.
Looking at their website now, it looks like they've expanded into other areas, and prices have probably gone up, but the reviews online look excellent and turn-around may be shorter since the commercial guys don't like long down-times.

They may be a bit farther away, but I can highly recommend T&P Aero in Salinas, California. They did a great job last year on my RV-10, for a reasonable price. The scheme was developed for me by Scheme Designers.

You could also look at ArtCraft in Santa Maria (Central California) - they seem to do nice work on the west coast. It's where I'm planning on going for my RV-8 eventually.

Would you consider doing it yourself? Maybe a simple "classic" scheme? Not too complex? I needed to do some paint work on my camper last year. I had no experience whatsoever painting vehicles. I bought some inexpensive equipment and gave it a go. I was shocked at how easy it was. The base/clear paints are so easy to put on - they are designed to flow out, and getting a nice, glassy finish was easy.

Here's another sample of Cascade Design's work (Bend, Oregon). Paint scheme by Evoke. Both companies work well together.Twin Oaks 6-7-25.jpg
