PW: I test flew my 4 with maybe 40 hours in a Super Cub and Citabria (and 100 hours total time). My 4 was easier by far. No time in a Pitts, but they look short coupled to me and with limited visibility. Had a hangar mate for years who flew his Pitts with Goodyear (Goodrich?) drum brakes once or twice a year. He did not die in his plane, but that seemed likely to me at the time. My guess is it is overkill, but if you can fly a Pitts, a 4 would be easy....just my experience and opinion.

I went to Mike Seager back in 2019. Flew the RV7 off his strip. He is a great guy and great instructor. Never had any tailwheel time until flying with Mike. Made for an easy transition to the my RV8. Can't remember the town but an hour or so outside of Portland.

How many hours was your training?

I did 5 flights totalling about 12 hours but as I said I had no tail wheel experience and hadn’t actually flown a small airplane in close to 12 years.
He was very good and made me comfortable to take my own airplane and do all the phase one testing.
