Sometimes figuring out how to cut the inboard (top & bottom) flap skin to "match" the fuselage skin can be a delicate "dance". Some builders like to fit the two close enough that no overlapping cover is necessary - this takes some planning and "sneaking" up on the "sweet spot" without going past it, necessitating that cover you didn't want in the first place.

This little support piece is something I call EZ-FIT because it allows you to "sim" up exactly what you need w/o going anywhere near the flaps. You make a short, dummy flap section, with the hinge section an exact, known distance from the edges. So, when you are ready to make the cut on the flap skin to match (or overlap if on the bottom) the fuselage, all you do is install EZ-FIT (hinge pin) so there is clearance between it and the fuselage, then simply fill in the gap with any convenient sheet material that can be fitted and taped in place to bridge the gap to your satisfaction. Once that is done, you can transfer your pattern(s) to your flap, using the hinge mounting location as a datum, and you should get a very close resulting fit.

YMMV - But this does work ...
