I’m considering flying my 10 to the Bahamas in March for 5 days. Has anyone done this and willing to offer their travel secrets?

I’m looking for at least two or three destinations. I like the idea of laying over in the outer islands, less touristy but with plenty of adventures. Wife likes nice accommodations, but doesn’t have to be over the top.

My family is very active, so biking, hiking, snorkeling, etc are all in play.

Someone I work with mentioned Cat Island. Anyone have recommendations?

I'm sure folks will come along, but to get you started put Bahamas in the search bar above and there are a bunch of threads from just last year. Requirements, lodging etc. It will keep you reading for a while. Have fun, sounds like a great trip.

New fee as of July 2024, $150 inbound customs fee. Was $50. Also, a $29 departure fee/person. For us repeat offenders, it’s a big increase. For those of you that make it infrequently, it’s well worth the cost. There’s many discounts, $300-350 fuel credits available for outer islands for > 3 days in a hotel. VRBO doesn’t qualify.
The water & beaches are fantastic, like no where else. Well worth the adventure.

The further south you go, the greater the "adventure". Search the archives.
Danny, I'm glad you qualified your cost comment. It is totally worth it!

I've checked on the treasure (archives). It is going to be found soon I predict.

Our favorite places in the world are in the Abacos. It is a nice short flight over water into Marsh Harbour with a ferry ride over to Hope Town. Unfortunately Hurricane Dorian took out our favorite Hotel/ Motel, Hope Town Lodge. Also took out Sea Spray Marina. Most everything is back on the island but these two places. Abaco Inn is a great choice or if you stay a full week any of the VRBO's are good. We always preferred a 3-4 day trip so the lodge was perfect. Renting a golf cart and or boat for the stay is always a great choice.
We have done Eleuthera in a VRBO but it is much less populated and touristy so less things to do or places to eat. Flying in to the North Eleuthera airport is an option with a ferry ride over to Harbour Island. More stuff there.
We have done many more places by boat but these were the best by plane.
I guess flying into Treasure Cay and a ferry over to Green Turtle Cay would be a good one as well.

Cat island is pretty remote. It is usually only a fishing and diving destination. Pretty nice hotel/ restaurant literally walking distance from the airport. I’ve stayed there. The restaurant cooks whatever it has on hand for the day but it is always good. Rooms are ok. Diving is good and fishing is great.
My favorite out island is Eleuthra flowered closely by abaco. You NEED a car in Eleuthra but they are easily gotten and cheap. Roads suck, adventure abounds. Governors harbor has great small restaurants and plenty of decent hotels and air bnbs abound. Go- expect 3rd world issues and enjoy the adventure!

We really enjoyed Green Turtle Cay, a short ferry ride from Treasure Cay. Dorian did a lot of damage to both islands, and I went back a few years ago to find a lot of devastation remaining but slowly rebuilding. Not sure what is there now but i would happily go back, and rent a boat for a few days as well.
