Default Rudder horn/reinforce plate extra hole

Before I hit up vans tech support, does anyone know what these extra holes are for. They are not drilled through the spar yet. I donít see them listed on the plans anywhere. My assumption is for something later but I donít know. This is for an RV 7, feel free to move this to the 7 room, but I wasnít sure if it was an across the board thing to be drilled later. Thank you!

I believe those parts are common to the RV14 and thats where those holes are used. I asked Vans about this back in the day and was told that I could either ignore them or match drill them to the spar.

I'm building an RV-8 and it has the same phantom holes. I reached out to Vans support and got the following answer:

There are some parts commonality between aircraft models.

You can leave those holes un-riveted and unused

-or-

Fabricated a new larger shim of about the size and include those holes.

The choice is yours.

Rivets would be the same: AN470AD4-X (x=appropriate lenght)
