Yesterday I was going for a short joy ride - taxied out, during runup switched ignitions from both to R, engine died. Taxied back to hangar. Troubleshooting revealed one dead LightSpeed Plasma III box. No problems for 14 years, so no complaints. I sent the dead one back to Lightspeed for repair/upgrade.

Default Fuel System

I installed the fuel plumbing from tanks to valve. What a pain. Glad I didnt wait until panel was installed. My hats off to those who did it like the plans. I gave up and spent $ 100 on extra AN fittings.

Time for margarita; i dont work on the plane after drinking, so i will tighten and torque strip tomorrow.

My oldest daughter was competing in the State track meet, my wife went the day before but I had to stay behind and work.
This morning I used the RV to turn a 2:15 drive into 42 min, not to mention way more fun and some currency as a bonus. Started out on the high side of MVFR, and ended up getting a block altitude 050-060 so I could skim the cloud tops.
Got to watch my kiddo and her great friends compete in my first ever state competition, she’s a freshman so hoping for another 3 years.
My wife dropped lil’ dude and I at AAO and we flew 3 min to 1K1 to have a burger with my parents. Just happened to bump into another friend who invited us to his unmarked grass strip on our way home to share his tips on runway building. Lil’ dude even got a little night time as requested, he also requested to help clean bugs off the airplane.
And it’s only Friday.....
Edit—-looks like I’m gonna have to play with my portrait/landscape orientation with the pic thing

Default epic leak chase

I'll be pulling the cowls (again) and hosing down the motor with mineral spirits or brake cleaner and trying to track down an oil leak. Not a major one, but a messy one and I'm tired of looking at it.

Got a siphon gun, a kiddie pool as a catch basin, blacklights and a rainy day.

And time.

3.7 hours from Birmingham to Ann Arbor this morning with my number four son to visit my oldest son and his wife. What a beautiful town!

Short hop out to Drumheller, AB to meet up with a bunch of different pilots from a a Facebook group I'm in. We had a trio of airshow performers in a Rocket, a Long-EZ and a Harvard (T-6). Great time at a great little airport. This is an airport that I've never had a good landing at. Went well today with a nearly direct gusty 15 kt crosswind. Got to practice a LNAV approach at both ends.

Flew into North Las Vegas and met my nephew who gave me a hangar tour of F-22s, what he flies. Then flew to my old stomping grounds in Prescott, AZ, to attend the western art show on the courthouse square.

No idea what stops I'll make on the trip back to Georgia...

Wife and I took 6 hour flight to Charlotte, NC for the Coca Cola 600 NASCAR race. Around 140-145 kts TAS LOP at 7 gph; this plane tickles my fancy!

Just beat out the non-flyable weather coming in to Rochester to start the flight. Did have to put up with 45 minutes of light rain.

Conditions down to absolute IFR minimums for our fuel stop in Bloomington, IN. Our G3X hollered out “MINIMUMS” just after we broke out of solid overcast at 200’. Been a while since We have flown to minimums. Felt REALLY good to see those runway Numbers appear in our windscreen. Had to hand fly it since I messed up my setup of the ILS approach with vectors; wasn’t the time to start playing with the electronics. I always choose to hand fly if something seems off. Fortunately, that doesn’t happen often, but I often practice it.

Hoping for better weather and easier/safer conditions for our flight home on Tuesday!

Parked at KOBI…weather has been awful in the east. Coldest Memorial Day weekend in over 100 years!
