What did you do with your RV this weekend? (2/4/22 - 2/6/22)

Fri-Sun.

N.TX: Nothing today for me - ice and snow (mostly ice currently) has us hitting the pause button. Jeep runs around the neighborhood when we get bored (props to McDonald's for being open). Water is turned off at the hangar just in case. Below freezing for 60 hours the Wxfolk say.

We're not really wired for ice around here. Everything kinda stops.

This flight actually happened on Tuesday, but this was Charleston SC from 8000ft just after sunset. I was on my way back home to Tampa after dropping my son and his girlfriend off in Conway SC where he goes to school. They had come down for Gasparilla weekend.

24 hrs later.....

Friday we were iced in. By Saturday it was almost gone. A little outside the hangar door, but I can push it over that <g>.

Clear and a million. Some traces of snow still on the ground, but that is probably gone as I type this.

38 min circuit. Around the lake, see if Mema is home (yes), see if Matt is home (no)

Back in the hangar. Felt good to get off the surface.

Poor thing. A little bit of ice. I have a 2 ft snow drift in front of my hanger. That’s 2ft high and 5ft wide. Won’t be doing any work until it wormed up some. Any way.

Final panel riveting

Nearly completed final riveting on last fuse forward panel. Wow, it feels good to have structure complete. Had my son and good friend help, i built a platform for the footwell to save their backs.

I hope next structural riveting is on RV15!!!!

It is suppose to get much colder, maybe I will re start fiberglass work:)

Same here with 2ft high drift in front of hangar but I have a second pile of heavy chunky snow 3 ft high from the snow plow.

‘Nuff said.

Half Moon Bay meetup with a handful of other RVators. Food at The Pilot Light was great!

Leadville CO

Went to Leadville hoping to visit National Mining Museum.

Here goes my crew car! Three Army choppers landed there earlier and went to town.

I will come next time the airport is not far from my base. Road back was picturesque. Bumpy, busy and beautiful Monarch Pass.

Worked on finalizing the details of the five-figure order I placed with Stein this week.

:) then  and now  but eventually :D

1st, who cares about flying weekends, unless u‘re ain’t retired :D
2nd, the WX wasn’t too inviting around here, but who cares anyway?

Chiseled away at the upper intersection fairings... and they're on the airplane. All essential fabrication is officially finished. All intersection fairings will require some massaging and paint later, but for now they're complete enough for first flight. So now I'm officially ready for first engine start. Waiting for the right conditions (clear and dry ramp; not too cold) and while I'm waiting I'll get some avionics calibration done. And I suppose I should remove the four-year-old duct tape from the prop hubs and finally unmask the blades...

+1........
Vlad & Steve, I’ll put it on my “landingl” list!
Unfortunately Vans doesn’t make a model to haul all my kiddos, Yet.
I think I’m better off building a 10 (really hope the 15 is a C180 variant) and teaching a kiddo or 2 to fly to get us where we want to go.

I retired Friday after 37+ years working as an aeronautical Engineer and had those exact two thoughts. My hangar mate said “no flying for you this weekend with the snow drift out front”. I said “but I can fly any day this week when temp will be in the 40s and snow melted”. I guess it did not take me long to make the transition to retired life.

I hate to use bad language, but, pro seal. Had to pull the right tank and fix a leak.

Congratulations Phil. Six Saturdays a week!

Well said all . . . . .

Drilled the engine mount to the firewall. I've heard a lot of people complain about this being challenging, but it turned out to not be a big deal
